Our Story
Heron Banks Golf Course is a modern 18 hole par 71 Danie Obermeyer links-type style designed sanctuary that is situated right on the border of the Free State and Gauteng provinces along a 3 kilometer riverfront stretch of the Vaal River in Vaalpark; and just a 45 minute drive from Johannesburg.
The course is just over 6,6km long with beautiful greens and fairways in addition to a well kept driving range and putting green. It is surrounded by stunning natural vegetation, amazing scenery and wildlife which feature a variety of birds including the famous Blue Heron. It is simply a great combination of relaxation and recreation.
We offer a warm, welcoming and family friendly atmosphere with personnel members that strive to always offer excellent service that is coupled with a long lasting pleasant experience because great hospitality is the most essential part of our establishment. Heron Banks Golf Course officially opened its first 9 holes in December 2013 and the full 18 was open a year later. The course boasts 18 holes that have seamlessly incorporated the surroundings wetlands to give it a distinct links style character, in addition to the driving and putting greens.
We have a highly active membership of over 500 members, regular golf days and host of tournaments including the Ladies Free State Open, Heron Banks Junior Free State Open, Northern Free State Open, 2018 South African Senior Amateur Open, Senior Free State Open and a Fidelity Senior Tour Pro-Am. Heron Banks is a golf course where there will always be opportunities to test your skills.
